Split System

What is a Split Air Conditioning system?

Split system refers to the indoor unit & the outdoor unit.

The most common split systems are wall-mounted units and are commonly used in houses and apartments, and can be fitted to an individual room, areas or multiple rooms.

In addition to wall-mounted units, other types include ceiling or bulkhead concealed, floor standing, ceiling suspended or a cassette type. A unit can be selected to suit a space, its décor etc.

These two components work together to remove heat from the air inside your home. First, the air from inside your room is sucked up into the wall unit. It’s blown across pipes filled with chilled refrigerant gas, which absorb heat from the air. The cooled air is then blown back into the room.

Next, the refrigerant is pumped outside to the compressor unit to dispose of excess heat. Once heat is removed from the refrigerant, the gas is compressed and ready to begin its journey again (the operation of the system works in reverse cycle meaning it can heat or cool as required).

Split systems are generally straightforward to install & cost effective, especially when compared with ducted systems where duct and vents need to be installed throughout the entire home.
